Liverpool are just "a step away" from securing the signing of Porto vice-captain Hector Herrera, "?according to Fox Sports Mexico journalist Vladimir García.
Jurgen Klopp is reported to be interested in the 26-year-old box-to-box midfielder, who scored a late goal in Mexico's 3-1 win over Uruguay on Tuesday night in the Copa America.
Herrera bagged nine goals in the Portuguese league in 2015/16 and established himself as a key player in the Portuguese giants' side.
Héctor Herrera está a un paso de dejar el Porto para pasar al Liverpool (Pachuca tiene el 30% de sus derechos)
He moved to Porto from Pachuca in 2013, and though there is no suggested transfer sum as it stands, his former club stand to receive a hefty 30% of the fee if and when the deal goes through.
The Reds have already completed the signing of Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic this year, while they're also interested in Empoli's Piotr Zielinski.
The likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Emre Can, Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen are the men vying for the central midfield slots in the Liverpool squad as it stands, but Herrera's arrival could spell the end for one or more of those players at Anfield.
Allen in particular has been linked with a move away from the club, with the likes of Swansea City and Celtic interested.

Allen himself said last week that he wouldn't consider his club future until after Euro 2016 with Wales, "?stating: "I think it hinges on the pre-season plans and what exactly the club are hoping to do, everything comes into that. As a footballer you want to play every minute of every game. That's been the challenge for me.
"As soon as the season finished with Liverpool I said to myself, 'I don't want to have any distractions and I am fully focussed and engaged on purely all things Wales'.
"That's where I am at the moment."
