"?Liverpool's controversial striker Mario Balotelli is set to return to Anfield after spending an unsuccessful season on loan at AC Milan, according to reports emanating from Italian publication "?Calciomercatoin.
The 25-year-old's long-term future still remains unclear, however, it has been confirmed that the wayward striker will return to Liverpool to join up with Jurgen Klopp's side for the Reds' pre-season on 2nd July.
The former Italian international was expected to extend his stay at the San Siro, but due to the impending sale of the club to a Chinese consortium, the transfer has taken a back seat.
As a result, Liverpool have called the player back for pre-season training at the start of August. However, according to the report, it is still Liverpool's intention to sell the player.
It's been a tough month for Super Mario after he was also left out of Italy's squad for Euro 2016, but considering he scored just one Serie A goal in 20 appearances this season, it's understandable to see why Balotelli didn't make the cut this year.
However, the striker firmly believes that if he had the chance to represent his country, he would find the ability to perform at the highest level.
"For me, I feel that [when I play for Italy] I represent my country, so it can only be good energy from me." The Liverpool striker told "?Goal.com. "I don't take it [playing for Italy] as a pressure, I take that everything I do on the pitch is for my country."
