Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Retains Interest in Bringing German Defensive Powerhouse to Anfield

Published on: 01 October 2016

"?Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be still considering a move for towering German defender Niklas Sule.

The 21-year-old Hoffenheim centre-back stands at 6 ft. 5 and has been on Klopp's radar since the summer. The "?Mirror are now reporting that Liverpool still want to sign him, and Klopp could make a move at the soonest opportunity.

He was said to be on a three-man target list along with goalkeeper Loris Karius and attacking midfielder Mario Gotze, but the club only signed Karius, while Gotze returned to Borussia Dortmund.

However, the Reds recruited Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan as centre-backs, also strengthening other positions with the likes of Marko Grujic, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum. They have won four Premier League games on the bounce, and have seen off stiff competition in Arsenal, Leicester City and Chelsea in the process.

On Saturday, they overcame a deficit to beat Swansea City 2-1, and look poised to finish in the top four this season, with many tipping them to win the title as well.

Signing Sule in January would probably increase their chances. Mamadou Sakho is likely to be shipped off, so adding another defender - a highly-rated one at that - certainly can't hurt.

Up next is a tough match against Manchester United, in which their defence will be thoroughly tested by the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford.

Klopp will definitely know if he needs a new defender or not by the time the next transfer window rolls around. But he could start making solid plans way before that.
