"?Liverpool and West Ham United may have to contest a play-off match to see which side will feature in next season's UEFA Europa League.

The two clubs could end up level on points, goals scored and have the same goal difference at the end of the final round of fixtures of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign.

And, if such a scenario plays out, the Reds and the Hammers would have to face each other to determine who would secure European football next term.

"?Premier League rules state that: "If at the end of the season either the league champions or the clubs to be relegated or the question of qualification for other competitions cannot be determined because two or more clubs are equal on points, goal difference and goals scored, the clubs concerned shall play off one or more deciding league matches on neutral grounds, the format, venue and timing of which shall be determined by the board."

For Jurgen Klopp's men, they must beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1, or beat the Baggies by one goal, while scoring two more goals than West Ham and hope that the Londoners lose by one goal.

The Anfield-based outfit must then lose their Europa League final against Sevilla on Wednesday 18th May to force the issue - winning the trophy would automatically grant them a place in next season's Champions League, however.

Slaven Bilic's charges, meanwhile, only need to prevent Stoke City from beating them 1-0 to ensure that their new ground, the Olympic Stadium, will play host to UEFA's second-tier continental competition in 2016/17.

Southampton, currently sitting seventh in the league standings, must also fail to beat Crystal Palace to allow Liverpool and West Ham to fight it out in the one-off match.
