Leonardo Bonucci to End Speculation Linking Him With Premier League Move by Extending Juventus Stay

"?Leonardo Bonucci is on the verge of signing a lucrative new deal with Italian champions Juventus that will fend off interest linking him with Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester City.

"?Football Italia report that according to Tuttosport, the Old Lady are eager to lock down their star defender after a summer that saw Bonucci constantly linked with a move to England.

Chelsea were heavily linked with a move for the 29-year-old following manager Antonio Conte's work with Bonucci at both Juventus and on the international stage with Italy. Meanwhile Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola spoke glowingly about the defender, calling him one of his favourite players in the world.

With both clubs flirting with the possibility of signing the Juventus man, the Serie A side are set to repay Bonucci for the commitment he has shown to the club, with a bumper new deal.

Discussions are currently underway regarding a deal that will see the Italian earn over £4m-a-year excluding potential bonus payouts, which will keep Bonucci at the club until 2021.

Having joined the club over six-years ago from Bari for little over £12.5m, there were suggestions that Bonucci could become the world's most expensive defender with Guardiola's side rumoured to have submitted a bid around £50m, which was rejected prior to the club's successful pursuit of alternative option, John Stones.

Juventus' desire to secure the long-term future comes after key men such as Arturo Vidal, the world's most expensive player Paul Pogba and Alvaro Morata, who all appeared in the club's 2015 Champions League final appearance, made their Turin exit in little over the last year.
