Leicester's Jamie Vardy to Delay Arsenal Decision Until After Euro 2016

Published on: 06 June 2016

"?Jamie Vardy has decided that "?he will not make a decision on his future until after England's Euro 2016 campaign in France this summer, following the wishes of national team manager Roy Hodgson.

Hodgson has been assured by Vardy that his focus will be on England and not his club future after Arsenal activated the strikers release clause. Gunners manager Arsene Wenger will now have to decide whether to wait on Vardy, or to pursue other options.

Arsenal matched the £20m release clause in the hopes of signing Vardy before the England team flew out to France on Monday. Arsenal have offered the player a contract believed to be in the region of £100,000-per-week, although Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri and fellow teammates Kasper Schmeichel, Wes Morgan and Robert Huth have all contacted Vardy in an attempt to persuade him to stay at the King Power next season.

It is understood that Hodgson did not make any demands of Vardy to either rush or delay a decision, but the England coach did inform his players that he wanted them all fully focused on the national team once they arrived at their training camp in Chantilly.

News of the delay is likely to leave Gunners fans feeling down, and it leaves manager Arsene Wenger with a dilemma on whether to wait for Vardy, a wait that could last up to five weeks depending on how well England perform in France, or move on to another target.

The north London side have been linked in recent weeks with Juventus and Spain striker Alvaro Morata, although it looks as though they will be beaten to the player by Chelsea, who are understood to be having talks with the £40m-rated forward.
