Leicester Close in on Nice Midfielder Nampalys Mendy Despite West Ham Bid

"?Leicester City are closing in on Nice midfielder Nampalys Mendy, according to "?L'Equipe.

West Ham have also made a bid for Mendy, but it is the Foxes that look set to sign the 23-year-old for a fee believed to be €12m (£9.5m).

Mendy is on the top of Claudio Ranieri's list of transfer targets with N'Golo Kante attracting interest from the Premier League's biggest clubs.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with a move for Kante with Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho looking to strengthen their respective clubs in an attempt to challenge for the title and get their teams back into the Champions League.

Arsenal are also rumoured to be interested in Kante, who has a £20m release clause in his contract, despite having already signed midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach for £30m.

Ranieri attempted to sign Mendy for the Premier League champions last season but signed Kante, who has been a revelation since swapping France for England, from Caen for £5.6m instead.

Nice signed Mendy from Monaco in 2013 and the Frenchman has made 121 appearances for the Ligue 1 club since.

With Leicester venturing into the Champions League next season after winning the Premier league for first time in the club's history, and the futures of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Kante unclear, Ranieri will be looking to make additions to his Leicester squad.

The Foxes have already had a bid for Watford captain Troy Deeney knocked back as the club prepares for the upcoming season.
