"?Premier League champions Leicester City have announced signing highly-rated defender Ben Chilwell to a new five-year deal at the club.

Chilwell had been a subject of interest for several top flight clubs this summer, with Liverpool strongly linked. But the Foxes have moved to tie their player down with a new contract.

A statement on the club's website read: "Leicester City Football Club is delighted to announce that defender Ben Chilwell has signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League champions."

"It's fantastic news for us," said manager Claudio Ranieri, who led the Foxes to their first-ever Premier League title back in May.

"Ben is a player with a big future and I am very happy that future will be with Leicester City.

"Ever since I arrived in Leicester, Ben has been a young player that has shown a lot of promise. He has all the attributes you would want in a defender and shows a lot of maturity for a player of just 19.

"He has come back for pre-season in very good condition and is already showing that he is ready to push for a place in the team."?

The 19-year-old has become one of the best young defenders in England, and Leicester will certainly consider this a massive deal, given the fact that Chilwell had been so sought-after these past few months.

The deal was sealed at the club's pre-season training base in Los Angeles, where England's champions will face France's champions Paris Saint-Germain in the International Champions Cup on Saturday.
