"?Leicester City look to have completed their first signing of the summer with the capture of Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

The 27-year-old is on his way to Leicester for a medical, having exercised an option in his contract that allows him to leave in the event that Hannover are relegated, which they were after finishing last in the Bundesliga.

Leicester will have to pay £2.6m to land the highly rated German shot stopper, although Manchester City and Everton were reportedly interested in signing him.

"Ron-Robert Zieler has exercised his option right enshrined in his contract and Hannover 96 has been informed that he will travel to the English champions Leicester City for contract talks. In addition, the 27-year-old goalkeeper will complete the sports medical examinations in England,"? "?read a statement on the official Hannover website.

Zieler, who played for Manchester United between 2005 and 2010 as a youth, already confirmed his desire to leave Hannover after six years back in April.

He said: "Everyone who knows me will know just how much this relegation hurts me. I feel very close to Hannover, to the club and to the people. I think that a club like 96 belongs into Bundesliga, without any ifs and buts. That's why I really hope that the second league will only be a short stopover."
