Koulibaly: I would never speak badly of Napoli fans

Napoli‘s Kalidou Koulibaly has been forced to backtrack after admitting he would consider leaving the Partenopei should the club fail to offer him a new contract.

Just this week, the defender admitted to feeling aggrieved at the lack of progress in his contract discussions, and admitted that a Stadio San Paolo exit could be on the cards.

However, the Senegal international has since taken to Instagram in an attempt to appease the Azzurri supporters, who were less than happy with the player’s remarks.

“I would like to clarify that I never said anything against the fans or the people of Naples,” his post began. “I have always been thankful for everything you have done for me in this city.

“I became a man in this city and I am grateful for that. Despite how you might feel about me, I will always love Neapolitans.”

Tengo a chiarire non ho mai detto qualcosa incontro i tifosi o il popolo napoletano ! Ho sempre detto che vi ringrazio per tutto quello che avete fatto per me! Sono diventato uomo in questa città e ne sono felice ! Nonostante tutto quello che dite incontro a me, vi voglio bene napoletani …

Koulibaly’s current deal with Napoli has three years remaining, though his impressive performances for Maurizio Sarri’s side during the 2015-16 campaign have grabbed the attention of some of Europe’s big-spending sides, like Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.
