Korea Republic crash out of the FIFA U-20 World Cup

Cheonan: Host nation Korea Republic lost 3-1 to Portugal on Tuesday to put an end to their FIFA U-20 World Cup title aspirations.

Portugal scored with their first two chances of the quarter-final encounter when Xadas and Bruno Costa both steered in efforts with supreme accuracy.

Buoyed by an electric home crowd, Korea Republic pushed numbers forward to get back into the match, but they lacked the ruthlessness in front of goal that Portugal showed on the evening.

Xadas put the game away in the 69th minute when he dribbled past Jeong Taewook before placing a shot into the bottom corner.

Substitute Lee Sang-heon scored in the 81st minute to give the hosts a glimmer of hope but it proved merely a consolation.

Portugal will play the winner of Uruguay versus Saudi Arabia on Sunday, while Korea Republic's campaign on home soil comes to an end.
