Juventus Set to Monitor Giorgio Chiellini Injury as Defender Remains Doubtful for Lyon Clash

Juventus have announced the thigh injury Giorgio Chiellini is currently nursing is not serious, but the defender remains a doubt for their Champions League encounter with Lyon on Tuesday.

The Italy international, 32, sustained the injury during a morning training session on Saturday, which forced him to set out Juve's 2-1 win over Udinese.

The Serie A giants revealed tests had been carried out on the defender to note the full extent of the injury that confirm the positive news that the Italian should not be out for an extended period of time. However, the 32-year-old will continue to be monitored during the coming week with further tests.

The Italian giants released a statement on the injury: "Following a recurrence of an injury previously sustained to his left thigh in training [Saturday] morning, medical examinations on Giorgio Chiellini today have come back positive, ruling out any long-term damage for the defender.

"Chiellini's condition will however continue to be monitored in the coming days with further inspections set to take place at the start of the week."

The Serie A giants have not given a timeframe for Chiellini's return from injury but it is understood he remains a doubt for Juve's visit to Lyon this Tuesday in the Champions League group stage match.
