The Serie A champions are braced for the departure of Mario Mandzukic after the Croatia international informed Massimiliano Allegri that he was unwilling to play second fiddle to summer signing Gonzalo Higuain, who signed for the Bianconeri from Napoli in the summer for £70m.

As Mandzukic weighs up his options, including possible moves to Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, the Italian club are determined to accelerate plans for his replacement, with Origi and Sturridge featuring high on the list of prospective candidates, with Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud another target being discussed.

Origi and Sturridge have been relegated to starting from the bench as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has preferred to play the Brazilian Roberto Firmino as the lone front man in recent weeks. It is unclear whether either player is willing to leave Anfield for a new challenge in Turin.

Sturridge is understood to be less than fully settled under Klopp and his mindset was not helped after being booked for diving during the 2-1 victory over Swansea City. Sturridge, who is keen to retain his place in the England national team under interim boss Gareth Southgate, also faces stiff competition from Danny Ings, who recently bagged a hat-trick for the U23 team.

Sturridge was thought to be open to a move away from Liverpool in the summer but felt he had to prove his fitness first. He joined the Reds from Chelsea in 2012 and has scored an impressive 55 goals in 98 appearances. Origi, meanwhile, has found it difficult to nail down a place in the starting line-up under Klopp.
