According to the report, one player who really thought Pogba would stay was Paulo Dybala, who was convinced that the Frenchman would stay for another season, however this proved not to be the case.

Pogba was heavily linked with Manchester United throughout the summer, and the deal eventually materialised before the start of the Premier League season, although Pogba missed the first game of the season through suspension.

Juventus were very keen to keep hold of their star midfielder and The Sun report that they were originally planning to offer him a lucrative new contract to ward off potential buyers. In the end, however, the world record bid was enough to persuade them to part with one of their star players.

With the sale of Pogba, Juventus were able to recruit the leading goalscorer in Serie A last season in the form of Gonzalo Higuain, for a reported £75m, while Pogba has since started the last two Premier League games for Manchester United.

Juventus continue their pursuit of another Serie A title with a home game to Sassuolo on Saturday, while Manchester United are at home as well in the Manchester Derby on the same day.
