Joshua Kimmich: Ancelotti's Bayern Are Freer But There's No Need to Change Everything Guardiola Did

Published on: 22 September 2016

"?Bayern Munich starlet Joshua Kimmich has admitted that new manager Carlo Ancelotti has brought more freedom to the way the team plays this season, although the midfielder is keen to state that not everything from the Pep Guardiola era should be changed.

"Outsiders try to talk up the differences between the coaches but all successful managers know how to build on the good work of their predecessors," Kimmich explained to ESPN.

"There is no need to change everything. Perhaps we are a bit freer in our attacking play under Ancelotti, who believes and trusts in our individual quality than under Guardiola, who issued more instructions and was more emotional on the touchline. But these are details."

Bayern have picked up under Ancelotti from where they left off last season with four wins from their opening four games, 14 goals scored and only one conceded.

It's an early statement of intent as far as a potential fifth consecutive Bundesliga title is concerned, but Kimmich actually feels there is plenty of room for improvement before Bayern are at their best.

"It will take a bit of time until it all comes together and run like clockwork," the 21-year-old German international commented.

"We were lucky that we only conceded one goal against Ingolstadt; we were also little lucky at Schalke (2-0 win). We could have done better. But the most important thing is that everyone knows that we have to play better, that we won't always get three points that way."

Kimmich played 36 times in all competitions last season, his debut campaign in the first-team, and has already made six appearances so far in 2016/17.
