Jose Mourinho to Earn £15m-a-Season in 3-Year Deal at Manchester United

Published on: 26 May 2016

"?Jose Mourinho is to earn a whopping £15m-a-season when he's officially announced as the new Manchester United manager, "?Mail Online reports.

Despite "?Sky Sports breaking the news on Thursday night that Mourinho had signed his contract to take over at Old Trafford, United are yet to confirm his appointment. The deal could be announced by United on Friday however, and Mourinho is to pocket the mammoth amount of money on an initial three-year contract.

Mourinho stands to make £45m over the course of the initial contract from standard earnings alone, but the deal will be filled with incentives for the former Chelsea boss.

The "?Telegraph claim that the Portuguese will secure bonuses of £5m and £2.5m respectively should he guide United to the Champions League and Premier League titles during the length of his initial contract.

Mourinho's deal dwarfs that of his predecessor Louis van Gaal, who was said to be earning £5m a season. Van Gaal was sacked earlier this week after failing to guide United into the Premier League's top four last season, and was informed of the club's decision just a couple of days after leading the side to their first FA Cup win in 12 years.

One of Van Gaal's signings from last summer, Bastian Schweinsteiger, admitted earlier this week that while he was sad to see the Dutchman leave Old Trafford, he was looking forward to working with Mourinho.

According to "?Sky Sports, and acknowledging Pep Guardiola's arrival at Manchester City, he said: "We don't know who will be our new manager yet, but it looks like it's going to be an interesting derby in Manchester next season.

"The enthusiasm for football in Manchester is great and, if Mourinho does take over at United, I think all of the players want to train under him so it's going to be quite a special season."
