Inter Milan Set to Beat Serie A Rival in Battle for Roberto Gagliardini

Published on: 02 January 2017

Inter Milan look set to sign Atlanta youngster Roberto Gagliardini, despite major interest from reigning Serie A champions Juventus.

"?Football Italia is reporting that a fee between €25m and €27m (£21m-£23m) has been agreed for Gagliardini, with the deal expected to be completed in the coming days.

Juventus were also interested in the 22-year-old midfielder, but appear to have lost out on their target after Gagliardini opted for Inter rather than the Old Lady.

Gagliardini has been in superb form this season, making thirteen league appearances and providing two assists so far. His impressive performances even saw a call up to the Italian national squad in November.

The 22-year-old came through the Atlanta youth system making his debut in 2013. Since then he has been loaned to Cesena, Spezia and Vicenza before becoming a regular for Atlanta this season.

Gagliardini's decision to choose Milan over Turin will disappoint Juventus who are aiming to win their sixth straight Scudetto.

Massimo Allegri's side are currently five points clear at the top of the table and play Bolognia on Sunday- their first game after the winter break in Italy.

Inter Milan are also in action on Sunday as they travel to Udinese. Inter will be hoping for three vital points which could help the side close the gap to the third placed Champions League spot.

Stefano Piolo's side are currently 7th in the table and five points behind third placed Napoli.
