Inter Milan Interested in Signing Wayne Rooney Next Season

Published on: 01 November 2016

In the latest transfer news, rumour has it that Inter Milan are interested in signing Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney in the summer. Rooney, 31, has recently been dropped by new boss Jose Mourinho and an exclusive report from SunSport revealed how he has to leave Old Trafford for first-team football. During his time with Manchester United, Rooney has become one of the club’s most well-known and long standing players, scoring a total of 246 goals in 532 games for the club. But, after a worse than average summer with England and playing in midfield turning out to be a failed experiment, the future for Rooney doesn’t appear to lie in Manchester any longer.

Inter Milan Plans

According to Calcio Mercato, the record breaking goal scorer for England is wanted by Inter Milan, who face battling with both MLS and Chinese Super League for his services. Rooney’s current contract with Manchester United is still valid for this season and another two, and since Mourinho seems eager to keep the current team together, a move in January seems unlikely for the skipper. But, at the end of the season, Inter Milan are expected to make their move, which could see Rooney playing football for a non-English team for the first time ever during his lucrative football career. Will Rooney Beat Charlton’s Record?

Wayne Rooney is currently three goals short from beating Sir Bobby Charlton’s impressive 249-goal record which has been standing for over forty years. Unless the skipper can manage to score three or more goals for Manchester United before he has to finally leave the club, it’s beginning to look more and more likely that Rooney might miss out on achieving this ultimate goal. Along with the prospect of being unable to beat the all-time record, the move may also impact Rooney financially, as he is expected to take a pay cut to his £250,000 per week wages as a result of the impending move.

Planning for Change

The rumour that Inter Milan is planning to sign Wayne Rooney comes as the club announces plans to turn a €140 million deficit into a profit as quickly as possible. The club is an 18-time national champion and has won three separate European Cups, but, pulling off a turnaround whilst still winning will be a rare feat to accomplish. In 2014, Michael Bolingbroke, the CEO of the club, drew up a five-year profitability roadmap for Inter Milan, and early reports show that the plan is falling into place. According to a source who is familiar with the finances of the club, Inter Milan are set to report a €60 million loss for the 2015/16 season, a huge improvement on the €140 million loss of the previous season.

How Wayne Rooney Can Help

For Inter Milan, signing a player such as Wayne Rooney could be exactly what they need in order to achieve the difficult task of becoming profitable again whilst still winning matches and taking home titles. With his impressive goal-scoring record for Manchester United, it’s unsurprising that Inter Milan have seen a very valuable opportunity to improve their team and gain more recognition as a club. Signing Wayne Rooney will expose Inter Milan to Manchester United fans and fans of Rooney himself as an individual footballer. A household name in football, Inter Milan seem to believe that Rooney has what it takes to help them turn the club around.

Do you think that signing Wayne Rooney will be a wise idea for Inter Milan at the end of this season? Or, could they be making a mistake given Rooney’s recent disappointing performances? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
