Iker Casillas Refuses to Retire Before Gianluigi Buffon

Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas insists he has no plans to retire any time before Juventus shot stopper Gianluigi Buffon does as the two prepare for Euro 2016 with their national sides.

Often regarded as two of the greatest goalkeepers of their generation, Casillas, 35, and Buffon, 38, are still both likely to start for Spain and Italy respectively when they kick off their Euro 2016 campaigns on Monday.

Buffon recently signed contract extension that will see him at Juventus until 2018 while Casillas has an option in his Porto deal to extend his stay until 2018 as well.

"When he retires, I will too," Casillas told La Gazzetta dello Sport via Goal.

"He just signed a new deal and that makes me happy because that means I will too.

"When we call it quits we'll set up a nice match between my friends and his friends."

Casillas, a two time winner of the European championship in 2008 and 2012, could start for Spain amid the recent sex scandal surrounding David de Gea, although it makes his task no less formidable.

"The keeper believes the task will be more difficult this year, with France, Belgium and Germany among the front-runners," he added.

"It will be more difficult than four years ago. France are good, Belgium are strong and then Germany are world champions. Italy and Portugal are always dangerous."
