Guardiola Reveals the Defeat Which Hurt Him More Than Barcelona's Hammering of Man City

"?Pep Guardiola has said he doesn't believe that Manchester City's 4-0 loss to Barcelona is the worst defeat of his career.

The Spaniard was quoted by Spanish news publication "?Sport in the wake of his side's Champions League drubbing at the hands of the club he used to play for and manage.

A Lionel Messi hat-trick and a late Neymar strike condemned City to defeat at the Camp Nou in a match that saw both sides reduced to 10 men in the second half.

The result saw Barcelona extend their lead at the top of Group C by five points ahead of the next batch of fixtures in two weeks' time.

Despite the humiliating loss against his former employers, Guardiola rejected that losing to the Catalan club had left him more dejected than any other defeat - instead pointing to a loss by the same scoreline during his time in charge at Bayern Munich.

He said: "No (not the worst defeat of my career), that was against Real Madrid in Bayern Munich because there I didn't make the right decision.

"We are a new club we come here, we play, we arrive, we associate well, we create chances, I remember two or three chances.

"After that, the last minute was another minute with a good save from Claudio [Bravo from Luis Suarez].

"But we start second half well. After that 10 minutes, we play 10 against 11 with 2-0 down and it's not easy."?

I hope Pep Guardiola stopped to shake Messi's hand after the game and thank the Argentine for giving him a career.

Average manager.

City lost goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to a straight red card after 53 minutes of the contest for handling the ball outside of his area.

The Chilean's rash decision ensured that City's task was made all the more harder, with Guardiola's 10 men shipping a further three goals following his dismissal.

Asked if the red card had changed the game, as well as whether the wheels were starting to come off his side's chances of doing well in all competitions, Guardiola was defiant in his response.

The 45-year-old added: "It's difficult to play with 11 players, until [red card] game was open.

"Last time with Bayern [Munich in 2014] we didn't create chances but today we did, we create chances to score one or two goals. But Barça can punish you, they have a lot of quality. We controlled, except the goal.

"Starting in Glasgow and White Hart Lane [mistakes have crept in], and we miss penalties, and we give a lot to the opponents. But it's October, we lost a game, it's not a final, we have another week.

"We have more games, we have to win two from three, we knew the group would be tough. Now rest for Southampton."?
