Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud has hit out at Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti for his actions leading up to both their dismissals in the dying embers of last night's 1-1 draw, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The France international, 29, clashed with Verratti deep into stoppage time at the Parc de Princes but the Frenchman, who will now miss the home encounter against FC Basel, feels his opponent went to ground without due cause.
Edinson Cavani had put the home side in front just seconds into the Champions League clash but while Arsenal had to contend with sustained pressure from the Ligue 1 giants in the first half, Arsene Wenger's men salvaged a point through Alexis Sanchez, late in the second half.
Giroud had replaced Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a bid to find an equaliser but was quickly booked before the incident involving Verratti, who had also been booked earlier in the match.
The game's major flash point occurred once PSG's Brazilian defender Marquinhos appeared to push Giroud in the back after the Frenchman tangled with Verratti - subsequently, both were booked by referee Viktor Kassai, who appeared to have not seen the incident.
"Being on a yellow card, I didn't want to make waves," Giroud told reporters.
"I obstructed Verratti, he threw himself to the ground and I don't understand. Marquinhos pushed me from behind and I don't know how Verratti falls a second time.
"It escalated the situation. It's frustrating, especially since I don't know if the referee saw what happened.
"I was really surprised at his behaviour."
