Former Inter Striker Diego Milito Claims Current Ace is Just as Good as Juventus' Higuain

Ex-Inter Milan striker Diego Milito believes that Inter's current main man up-front "?can challenge Juventus' Gonzalo Higuain for the Italian league's top scorer award (the Pichichi) this season, according to "?Goal.com.

Club captain Mauro Icardi grabbed the crucial equaliser for Inter against Juventus in last Sunday's game - Inter went on to win 2-1. Icardi also proved the difference in Milan's match last night, away to Empoli, grabbing both goals in an accomplished 2-0 victory for the Nerazzurri.

With an astonishing 6 goals in 5 league games, Icardi is already leading the goal-scoring charts in Serie A and Champions League winner Milito has been quick to praise his fellow Argentine's form.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milito said: "Icardi is worth the same as Higuain. For the title of top-scorer [in Serie A], I see a fight between the two of them. He [Icardi] is a killer in the box and everyone knows it, but against Juve he was a real team man."

Milito went on to praise Icardi's performance in the big game last Sunday against Juventus, adding: "This was demonstrated by the way he picked up fouls for the team against (Leonardo) Bonucci and (Giorgio) Chiellini, and the ease with which, even when it seemed like he had lost an opportunity, he put in the cross to Perisic."

High praise indeed.

Having said that, Icardi will do well to beat Higuain to top goalscorer if last season's stats tell us anything - Higuian scored an incredible 36 Serie A goals last term for Napoli whilst Icardi only mustered 16 for the entire league campaign.

When asked about the controversial decision to drop Higuain to the bench against Inter Milan last Sunday, Milito commented: "(Massimiliano) Allegri [Juve's coach] will have had his reasons, but I was very surprised when I saw Pipa (Higuain) on the bench".

The Juventus striker was restored to the starting line up last night and scored again in his team's 4-0 triumph over Cagliari, taking his goal tally in Serie A to four.

A relatively 'slow' start compared to Icardi, but with Higuain finding his form at new club Juventus already, Deigo Milito's prediction could well come true and the two deadly front-men could well be having their own personal battle as the season progresses.
