Former Chelsea Doctor Eva Carneiro 'Rejected' £1.2m Settlement Amid Claims of Abuse From Mourinho

Former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has rejected a £1.2m settlement following her controversial departure from the club in August of last year, according to documents submitted to her employment tribunal.

The Gibraltar-born doctor is claiming constructive dismissal against Chelsea. Legal action has also been taken against Manchester United's newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho, for alleged victimisation and discrimination.

According to Dr Carniero's lawyer, Mourinho will be subject to at least one day of questioning at some point in the hearing.

Mourinho was involved in a public dispute with Carneiro at the start of the 15/16 season after he criticised the doctor's decision to treat Eden Hazard's injury during the final minutes of an encounter with Swansea City.

It has been alleged that Mourinho hurled abuse at Carneiro in one occasion of sexual discrimination.

Carneiro QC says she heard "clearly" the Portuguese for "daughter of a whore". "You say 'filha da puta' when you're denigrating a woman."?

The former Chelsea doctor's claims that she was the victim of 'regular sexually explicit comments from colleagues' during a four-year spell at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea's legal team argued that Carneiro was 'hungry for publicity' citing an Ice Bucket Challenge that was uploaded to YouTube.

The tribunal is set to resume on Tuesday, at 2pm and will last between seven to 10 days at the London South Employment Tribunal in Croydon.

Legal papers submitted by Mourinho and Chelsea reveal that a £1.2m offer was made to Carneiro, but that offer was declined by the 43-year-old.

Chelsea's legal team claimed that documents at the time of the incident prove that Dr Carneiro did not consider Jose Mourinho's actions to be discriminatory.

"The purpose of the discrimination claim was to lift the statutory cap, in order to justify the claimant's extravagant compensation claim," Chelsea's legal team said.
