Former Arsenal Hero Ian Wright Offers His Thoughts on Arch Rivals Tottenham's Title Hopes

Published on: 02 October 2016

Ian Wright is an Arsenal man through and through. Although he does his best at remaining neutral as a football pundit, no one would be surprised if he showed up on TV one day wearing an Arsenal shirt

So imagine how difficult it was for Wright to comment on Tottenham's impressive 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Manchester City last weekend.

Wright was fulfilling his role as a pundit on "?BBC's Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night and was tasked with offering his thoughts on both Tottenham's victory and their overall chances of winning the Premier League title this season.

Did Spurs lay down a title marker today? Ian Wright gives his opinion... #MOTD2 https://t.co/cfXzyUaVIF

Wright said: "?"I think you have to say it's City that they've beaten there. Like I said, City had a couple of chances, but yeah, you have to say they're putting down a marker."?

Short and sweet it certainly was, but Wright's comment about Tottenham laying down a marker shows you just how serious Pochettino's men must be taken this season.

Tottenham are now the only unbeaten side in the Premier League this season and made light work of a City side that went into the game having won all six of their league matches.

An own goal from Aleksander Kolarov and Dele Alli helped give a vibrant Spurs a 2-0 win in a match where they will feel they could have won by a much bigger margin.

The result means that Spurs have closed the gap between them and 1st placed City to a single point. Arch rivals Arsenal and Liverpool are then a point behind Tottenham as this season's title race already appears it could be the one of the closest ones yet.

After yesterday's electrifying win over City, Tottenham boss Pochettino will want his players to remain grounded and for them to try and concentrate on the job in hand - even if they are winning the praise of an Arsenal legend.
