Nigeriasoccernet understands that Spanish La Liga powerhouse Atletico Madrid have beaten Cadiz to the signature of Nigeria goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

The FC Ifeanyi Ubah star has already signed a preliminary contract with the capital outfit which will be activated when the transfer window reopens for business.

Segunda División strugglers Cadiz had been in the running for the services of the 27-year-old but FC Ifeanyi Ubah chiefs pulled the plug on the deal after they failed to meet his asking price and personal terms.

Cadiz had offered to pay Ezenwa 1,300 euros monthly wages before tax (equivalent of N650,000), less than the 1,600 euros (N800,000) he earns every month at FC Ifeanyi Ubah.

Representatives of Atletico Madrid did their homework well before they reached an agreement with FC Ifeanyi Ubah, having scouted him during the Trofeo Carranza Tournament and during the Super Eagles get-together in Abuja before the trip to Zambia for the World Cup qualifier.

Ikechukwu Ezenwa’s deal with Atletico Madrid is subject to clearance from the Nigerian Federation and Fifa.
