Ex- Eagles Star Lawal Wants Rohr to Maintain Ndola Attack for Algeria

A former Super Eagles star, Garba Lawal has called on Gernot Rohr to maintain the attacking formation he used against Zambia for the match against the Desert Foxes of Algeria.

Super Eagles who are currently on top of Group B of the 2018 World Cup Africa qualifiers have a crucial tie against the number one team in Africa on November 12 in Uyo.

In a chat with Daily Trust, the Nigerian Olympian said the Eagles attack against the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Ndola was highly effective and should be maintained.

He said even as the temptation to use some of the strikers who missed the 'battle of Ndola' may be high, the coach should know that he is not supposed to change a winning team for the sake of doing so.

Lawal said the attack that the Eagles paraded against Zambia exhibited great understanding as the trio of Kelechi Iheanacho, Alexi Iwobi and captain, John Mikel Obi were telepathic in their passes.

He said once they maintain that understanding, it will be very difficult for any defence to keep them at bay for the whole 90 minutes.

The former Roda JC of Holland star therefore said "The attacking formation used by Rohr against Zambia was productive. I recommend that Iheanacho and Iwobi with support from Mikel should still lead the attack.

"Once they are able to maintain the understanding that they displayed against Zambia, it will be hard for the Algerian defence to stop them for the duration of the match.

"They will surely score the needed goals. So let's maintain the attack but if a fresh leg is to be introduced, someone like Isaac Success will do.

"Success is also in the Premiership and will easily blend with the other youngsters in the attack," he said.
