"?Everton have confirmed that Ronald Koeman will be the man to succeed Roberto Martinez as the new boss at Goodison Park on a three-year deal, ushering in a fresh and exciting era under the guidance of new major shareholder Farhad Moshiri.

Koeman leaves his post at Southampton after two successful seasons with the club, yielding 7th and 6th place finishes, with Everton believed to have paid around £5m to release the Dutchman from his contract at St Mary's.

It is thought that the promise of a bigger transfer budget and the opportunity to work with players that staying at Southampton couldn't have given him was key in the 53-year-old's decision.

"I am very excited to be Everton manager. I believe in the club, in the team, in the fans and in our ability to achieve things in the future," Koeman told the Toffees' official website following the announcement.

"Everton is a club with a great history and real ambition and it is a proud feeling for me to be part of what we want to go and do, together with the chairman and Farhad Moshiri. I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the club and to preparing for a big season in the Premier League."

After a successful playing career with Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona that saw him win eight league titles and two European Cups, as well as Euro '88 internationally, Koeman hung up his boots to pursue a coaching career in 1997.

He joined the coaching staff with the Dutch national team ahead of the 1998 World Cup, before linking up with Louis van Gaal at Barcelona.

Koeman landed his first managerial appointment at Vitesse Arnhem in 2000, later taking over at Ajax, Benfica, PSV, Valencia, AZ and Feyenoord. He arrived at Southampton as a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino in the summer of 2014.
