Eric Dier: Tottenham Are Trying to Get Rid of a Certain Image

Published on: 26 May 2016

Eric Dier was in the thick of the action during Tottenham's ill-tempered 2-2 draw with Chelsea back in May, and he has teasingly suggested he relished the occasion, the"? Times report.

Spurs travelled to Stamford Bridge knowing that they had to record a victory over their bitter rivals to remain in the hunt for the Premier League title and they quickly raced into a 2-0 lead.

However, the Blues pegged them back thanks to strikes from Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard which left a bitter taste in the mouth.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were filled with fury by the final whistle and nine players received yellow cards.

Dier was booked for a late lunge on Eden Hazard, but he insists Tottenham wanted to demonstrate that they are up for a battle.

"I don't think it was just me. I think as a team we wanted to show a different side to our game" the combative midfielder told reporters at an England press conference.

"Things boiled over at times, but at the same time Tottenham are trying to get rid of a certain image and I think that helped.

"For a long time Tottenham have had a certain image which I don't think this group of players and this manager enjoy. Obviously we are trying to change that. It isn't easy and it is going to take time but that is our aim."

Spurs eventually had to settle for third-place after a final-day capitulation against Newcastle but they can look forward to Champions League football next year.
