England Striker Daniel Sturridge Feeling Happy at French Training Camp Ahead of Euro 2016

Published on: 07 June 2016

"?England's Daniel Sturridge has revealed what the spirit is like in England camp as they prepare for Euro 2016, with the squad based in Chantilly, north of the capital Paris.

After complaints from players about boredom in previous tournaments, the 26-year-old told the "?Mirror that the team are enjoying their base.

"The facilities are great and the pitch is fantastic, the hotel - it's beautiful for us to be in there. We're all there together and getting along very well, the rooms are nice as well.

"We're just settling in now but it feels like home, it doesn't feel like we're far away from home, to be honest with you."

The Three Lions begin their Euro 2016 campaign on Saturday against Russia at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, and will be confident of winning a group that also consists of Wales and Slovakia.

One cause for contention in the England camp has been which formation to deploy in their opening game.

Despite a 1-0 win over Portugal at Wembley in their final warm-up game, England struggled to break down their opponents for large periods of the match, even though they were reduced to 10 men due to Bruno Alves' wild challenge on Harry Kane.

Roy Hodgson deployed a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond, but pundits and fans alike were quick to comment on how the two strikers - Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane - were forced to play in unnatural and non-dangerous positions due to their deployment in such a formation.

This may mean that Hodgson instead chooses to play a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 when the tournament starts in earnest.
