England Announce 23-Man Euro 2016 Squad; Marcus Rashford Included But Drinkwater Misses Out

Published on: 30 May 2016

Marcus Rashford has been included in England's 23-man squad for Euro 2016, with Danny Drinkwater, Fabian Delph and Andros Townsend dropping out of the provisional 26.

Captain Wayne Rooney will lead the party in France, along with teammate Chris Smalling, goalkeeper Joe Hart, and the two top goalscorers of the Premier League season in Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy.

Much of the buildup to the announcement was centred around whether Manchester United's teenage striker Rashford would win a place in the party, with speculation only ramping up further when Rashford scored on his England debut on Friday while Sturridge sat the match out with an injury issue - but both made it into the final squad.

England won that match 2-1, a goal from Rooney and an own goal from Eric Dier rounding off the scoring. Their other warm-up match also finished 2-1 to England, a late Jamie Vardy winner seeing off Turkey at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The Three Lions' final warm-up game is on Thursday, when they face Portugal at Wembley in a match which is likely to see little experimentation as both managers try to fine-tune their first-choice lineups.
