EFL: Arokodare on target in loss to Chelsea

Nigeria's Tolu Arokodare was on target for Wolverhampton Wanderers in their defeat to Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Super Eagles striker's goal was not enough to lift Wolves, who fell to a 3-4 loss at the Molineux in an entertaining encounter.

It was Tolu whose misplaced pass was intercepted by Jamie Gittens before the English midfielder released the ball to Andrey Santos, who hit a low shot from outside the box to give Chelsea the lead in 6 minutes.

It became two for the Blues after Gittens' cross found Tyrique George, who tapped the ball in from close range on 15 minutes.

Chelsea looked rampaging in the half, scoring the third four minutes before the end, after Willian Estaevo chipped the goalkeeper Sa after benefiting from a defensive slip.

It was the reinvigorated Wolves in the second half, as three minutes into the half, Tolu Arokodare scored to make it 1-3.

Hee Chan Hwang won the ball back high in Chelsea’s half and slotted in Tolu Arokodare, who side-footed home.

Wolves scored the second goal after a long throw found its way to David Moller Wolfe at the back post, who hit a low drive into the corner of the net.

In 81 minutes, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde replaced Tolu Arokodare before Liam Delap was sent off for Chelsea five minutes later.

Nevertheless, the encounter was far from over as Gittens turned goal scorer in the 89th minute with a blistering strike outside the box to make it 2-4.

There was a scramble in the box and the ball broke to David Moller Wolfe, who scooped an effort over Filip Jorgensen to reduce the deficit to one at additional time, but it was a little late for the host as Chelsea won 3-4 at the end.
