Spurs signed him during the January transfer window of that season, loaning him back to the Dons, helping them secure promotion to the Championship from League One.

Alli knew the scale of the challenge awaiting him when he signed for the White Hart Lane club, and has admitted surprise to establishing himself so quickly as a first-team regular.

"I knew how good the team was when I signed here, that was probably why I didn't expect to play as much as I have and I knew I was going to have to fight for my place", the midfielder said.

"Thankfully when I got the opportunity I took it and I have to thank the manager a lot for what's happened to me so far, how he's helped me and put a lot of trust in me.

"It all made it easy for me to go out there and play my football."

He made his league debut for Spurs on the opening day of the season against Manchester United, and established himself as a regular starter for Spurs after scoring his first goal for the club away at Leicester in August.

His fine form earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year award, as well as a place in the PFA Team of the Year and being called up to the England squad, being one of the nations biggest hopes for the upcoming European Championship in France.

Following his fine form, Spurs tied Alli down to a new long term contract until 2021, and the youngster is looking forward to more successful seasons in North London.

"It was an enjoyable experience playing here at Tottenham over the last season and hopefully there will be many more good times to come."?

Alli finished the season with 33 appearances in the league, scoring 10 goals and recording nine assists. His season ended prematurely after he received a three match ban for punching West Brom's Claudio Yacob.
