David Luiz Return to Chelsea Not Quite So Clear Cut After PSG Reject Opening £30m Offer

"?Chelsea sent the football world into meltdown on Tuesday night after it emerged a bid in the region of £30m had been made to re-sign former player David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain, two years after he was sold to the French champions for £50m.

However, despite rumours suggesting that Luiz would be open to a return to Stamford Bridge after dropping down the pecking order in Paris, things are not quite so clear cut.

According to L'Equipe, PSG rejected that opening offer and have made it clear to Chelsea they are not looking to sell the Brazilian defender.

Luiz, who has been a Ligue 1 champion and domestic treble winner in each of his seasons in France so far, is behind fellow countrymen Thiago Silva and Marquinhos in new manager Unai Emery's plans.

But the club is still keen to keep him to provide additional cover over the course of a long season.

With only hours remaining before the transfer deadline, Chelsea have little time to waste in negotiating with a club that isn't looking to do business and so it remains to see if the Blues will return with an improved offer.

Former Bolton Wanderers full-back Marcos Alonso is expected to complete his move to west London, signing from Fiorentina for a fee in excess of £20m, but central defence still remains a priority for Chelsea and manager Antonio Conte.

The club has remained linked with imposing Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly for most of the last few weeks, but rumours of substance have noticeably dried in more recent days after the player's valuation kept going up and up.
