David de Gea's Release Clause Has Just Days Left to Run as Real Madrid Continue to Be Linked

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea's contract release clause will reportedly become ineffective this Wednesday, according to Manchester Evening News.

The four-year deal was signed back in early September last year after a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid fell through due to administrative mishaps on Madrid's part.

But the deal was viewed by some as simply being a way for United to put themselves in a better position when it came to negotiations due to the fact de Gea only had a year to run on his previous contract.

Any signs of Real Madrid trying to take the United 'keeper have failed to materialise and with reports claiming that a "special exit clause" exists in the 25-year-old's contract, a deal looks unlikely.

Both parties seem to be content with the current situation after de Gea revealed his delight at Jose Mourinho's arrival at Manchester United, calling the deal "the right move" before reiterating his desire to honour his current contract.

He said: "I do not know anything, but that does not worry me now...

"I have three more years [on my contract] in Manchester, at a club that has given me everything. In addition, I am not thinking about anything apart from the national team.

"No-one from Real Madrid has called me, I am already used to the [newspaper] front pages but now I am focused on the national team. The European Championship starts and I cannot think about anything else."

The former Atletico Madrid graduate faces stiff competition for the number one spot for Spain's opening Group D match against the Czech Republic on Monday with Iker Casillas looking to add to his 167 caps.
