"?Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has announced his decision to retire from football at the relatively young age of 31. He had played 24 Danish Superliga games for Brondby in 2015/16 and internationally for Denmark as recently as March.
Thank you for your support. A great experience. It's sad, but it is the right decision to stop. I'm proud of my career," the player wrote on

Agger first came to prominence when he joined Liverpool from Brondby in January 2006, just a few weeks after his 21st birthday. He took a little time to adapt to English football but was a regular in Rafa Benitez's Reds team the following season.
Injuries ultimately disrupted Agger's time at Anfield. He managed just 62 Premier League appearances in four seasons between 2007 and 2011, while he only played more 30 times in a single league campaign one occasion in nine years as a Liverpool player.
Agger left the Reds to return to Brondby in the summer of 2014 after playing 20 times as Liverpool came within a whisker of claiming a first English title since 1990. He made more than 230 appearances for the club in total, scoring 14 goals.
Daniel Agger retires from football at just 31. Refreshing in a way.
On the international stage, Agger made his senior debut for Denmark in 2005 after previously presenting his country on a regular basis at Under-20 and Under-21 level.
Agger went to the World Cup in 2010 and Euro 2012 and has also been captain of the national team for the last four years until his retirement. He finishes with 75 senior international caps, the most recent of which came against Scotland earlier this year, as well as 12 international goals.
Outside of football, Agger is a qualified tattoo artist and may now pursue his passion full time.
