Chelsea's Willian Targeting Brazil Copa America Triumph

Published on: 02 June 2016

"?Chelsea star Willian has told the "?club's official website that Brazil are capable of winning the 2016 Copa America title.

The international football tournament, which is being held in the USA, gets underway on Saturday June 4.

Brazil are eight-time victors of the competition, but have not won the trophy since the 2007 edition.

And despite missing a trio of key players in Neymar, David Luiz and Thiago Silva, 27-year-old Willian believes that he and his team-mates have every chance of ending their nine-year wait for the cup.

"Brazil have a big history and have won so many Copa Americas, we know that and with our supporters behind us we will have a good chance to win," the winger said.

"There is big pressure in Brazil for us to win the competition and we already know Neymar is out, but we have many great players so we have a chance.

"We have Luis Gustavo, Fernandinho, Dani Alves so it's important for us to stick together.

"No one player can win a game alone so we must play as a team. Together we can go far in the competition."

Brazil were defeated by Paraguay in the quarter-finals of the 2015 installment - a 4-3 penalty shoot-out loss coming after the sides had played out a 1-1 draw.

Willian failed to hide his disappointment over not progressing further in the competition that year, and says that this year's tournament will be just as tough.

But under national team coach and Brazil legend Dunga, he believes Brazil can go all the way this time around.

"For sure it was very disappointing but I think we have more experience now and we must show that,' he added.

"It's a difficult group because in football nowadays there are no easy teams to play against.

"Against Brazil, every team wants to play at their best which makes it tough for us, so it's important we show our quality.

"I think we have a good chance to reach the next phase."
