"?Chelsea striker has admitted that he loses the plot when on the pitch every now and then.
The fiery Spain international has been a potent threat for the Blues ever since joining under Jose Mourinho two years ago, but has often found himself in hot water because of his temper.
His reputation has seen him become a target for opposing players, the media, and the footballing authorities. And things don't look to be changing anytime soon, with the striker having received two yellow cards from his first two games for Chelsea this season, as well as escaping two red ones.
Now on international duty with the Spanish team, Costa has lashed out at Spanish media for their constant criticism of his performances for Spain, but accepts that he goes off the reservation sometimes.
"Sometimes I dig myself a hole, but other times, with the slight comment, you create a media storm,"? Costa told Spanish outlet AS.
"Many times you may be right, I admit that I haven't done great things with the national team, I won't deny it. But when I play well, that should be mentioned. I have got the confidence of my teammates and I hope to start scoring soon.
"I get criticised for my character, but I have also got quality as a player"? Sometimes I lose the plot a bit "? like other players, but if it's me"?"?
Costa added that he would remain true to his character, however.
"I'm not going to change however much they criticise me. I know that sometimes I make mistakes - I don't need anyone to tell me when I am in the wrong:I have a lot of people around me who tell me straight to my face which is the way it should be.
"Everyone loses their temper from time to time".
