Chelsea Open Talks With Everton Over Re-Signing Striker Romelu Lukaku

Published on: 19 May 2016

Chelsea have opened talks with Everton about the potential transfer of Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge, according to Kristof Terreur of Belgian newspaper HLN.

Lukaku has been a massive hit on Merseyside since he joined - initially on loan - in 2013, and scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season. Lukaku is Everton's record signing at £28m, but the player's father has recently stressed that he believes the 23-year-old will move to a bigger club this summer.

Roger Lukaku stressed that he'd like to see his son join one of Manchester United or Bayern Munich, while the player's agent Mino Raiola is believed to want to press on with talks with Italian champions Juventus. However, the latest report claims Chelsea are looking to beat a number of rival clubs to his signing for the second time.

A potential sticking point however is the huge fee Everton are looking to secure for their forward, as it's reported they're demanding £65m - a figure even confirmed by the player's father.

Lukaku senior said "?earlier this week: "Right now, I think the most suitable clubs for him are Bayern Munich or Manchester United.

"Especially Bayern as the club every year are at least in the semi-finals of the Champions League and the Bundesliga suits him perfectly. I do not think he will go to Italy because the game is far too closed at the back.

"What is certain is that to continue to progress, he needs to change club, he must make the right choice.

"Everton are asking around £65m for Rom. I think a transfer will be done before the Euros. Romelu will decide his future, but agents have the last word most of the time. I hope and I think Mino Raiola is a honest man."

Chelsea are also interested in discussing a deal for John Stones with Everton, but Lukaku is one of the forward names they're considering signing - along with Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata.
