The veteran's future has been the subject of massive speculation since he spoke to the media after Chelsea's FA Cup game against MK Dons at the end of January - saying at the time: "It's not going to be a fairytale ending, I'm not going to retire at Chelsea."

He insisted "?earlier this week that he wanted to continue playing for the Blues, saying: "I still want to play for a couple more years, hopefully at Chelsea.  I'm a Chelsea player and Chelsea's been my club from the age of 14. I love Chelsea."

Centre-back partner Gary Cahill "?praised Terry this week ahead of what could still be the end of his final season at the club, saying: "To achieve what he has achieved at this football club, and to achieve what he has achieved in his career, is phenomenal.

"Will anyone achieve what he has achieved as a captain at Chelsea Football Club? Probably not. It's something remarkable. Of course in all the fans' eyes he will be thought of for many years and obviously never be forgotten."

Terry is now expected to sign the extension to keep him at Stamford Bridge for at least one more year under new manager Antonio Conte, before the whole merry-go-round spins again next season.
