Chelsea Defender Gary Cahill Hails John Terry's Contract Extension

"?England international Gary Cahill has expressed his pleasure at club captain John Terry signing a contract extension at Chelsea.

Terry, 35, has made over 700 appearances for the West London club, across a 17-year professional career, but following stalled contract negotiations it looked as though he could be heading for an exit.

The former England skipper announced earlier this year that he would not be staying on at the club after his contract expired this summer, however Chelsea stated that they had not yet made a decision on his future.

Under immense pressure from fans at Stamford Bridge, the club eventually opted to offer Terry a new one-year deal, which he signed last week, much to the relief of his defensive partner Cahill.

"It's important. All the lads are very happy, I'm sure the fans are very happy, so it's a great end  to the season in that respect.

"I just want to echo what everyone is thinking; it is a great boost for the club, it''s a great lift for the players and obviously the fans", added the former Bolton Wanderers defender.

Terry's place had been under threat from performances of French youngster Kurt Zouma, however he had his season ended by a knee injury.
