Chelsea and Manchester United Target Marek Hamsik to Hold Talks Over New Napoli Contract

Published on: 17 June 2016

"?The agent of Slovakia star Marek Hamsik has revealed the player will hold talks over a new contract with Napoli in the coming weeks, despite growing interest from both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Both clubs have been keeping tabs on the 28-year-old for several months, but his outstanding performances at Euro 2016 have made the Premier League duo step up their interest. Despite this, agent Juraj Venglos was quick to play down speculation that the player could move to England, as he's already with a top club in Naples.

Venglos told "?Radio Crc: "Hamsik is already at a big club.

"In the coming days I'll meet [Napoli president Aurelio] De Laurentiis and [sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli, but I can't say any more at the moment. Since the talks haven't happened yet, I can't be any more precise."

The player has been linked with moves to both clubs on several occasions over the past couple of years, but is said to have turned down a move to England in the winter transfer window too.

At the time, speaking to "?Sky Italia, Hamsik said that he was looking to see out his current contract and was not considering moving elsewhere.

He said: "I love this jersey. I've always said it, I have a further five years left in my contract and I'm very happy here. I have married this project and I want to continue to play here."?

Hamsik hit a wonderful curling effort in his country's recent 2-1 win over Russia at Euro 2016, and will lead his side into their next match against England on Monday night.
