Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has admitted that extensive behind-the-scenes preparation is ongoing as Nigeria gears up for a demanding semi-final showdown against host nation Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Nigeria will face the Atlas Lions in one of the most highly anticipated fixtures of the tournament, with a place in the AFCON final at stake. Having finished as runners-up at the previous edition, the Super Eagles are aiming to reach the final for the second consecutive time, but Chelle is fully aware of the scale of the challenge that awaits his team in Rabat.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, the Franco-Malian tactician acknowledged Morocco’s quality and the added pressure that comes with playing in front of home supporters.

“Morocco is a strong team. It’s not easy being the host country because there’s a lot of pressure,” Chelle said. “But there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes.”

Chelle explained that preparations have gone beyond what is seen on matchdays, with the technical crew working intensively on tactical planning, player management, recovery, and mental readiness to ensure the team is fully equipped for the battle ahead.

The Super Eagles coach also praised his opposite number, Walid Regragui, describing him as one of the top coaches on the continent, while highlighting the depth and quality within the Moroccan squad.

“Their coach is very good, and they have good players,” Chelle noted. “All I hope is that we will witness a great match and that the best team will win.”

In addition, Chelle called for greater understanding from fans and pundits regarding the realities of international football management, especially at major tournaments like AFCON, where preparation time is limited.

“I often hear people say, ‘Yes, but Walid Regragui…’ but you have to try and put yourself in the shoes of a national team coach,” he concluded.

The semi-final clash between Nigeria and Morocco is expected to attract massive attention across the continent, as both teams battle not only for a place in the final but also for continental pride at AFCON 2025.
