Burnley Chief Executive Delighted With Premier League Opener at Turf Moor

Published on: 16 June 2016

"?Burnley chief executive David Baldwin has expressed his delight at being drawn at home against Swansea in the club's first Premier League fixture of the new season.

Speaking to the "?Lancashire Telegraph, Baldwin admitted his relief at landing Swansea on the opening day on August 13, instead of a more difficult curtain-raiser against one of the so-called 'bigger clubs'.

In their last Premier League adventure two years ago, the Clarets began the campaign at home to Chelsea which ended in a 3-1 defeat. This time around, the Turf Moor side are presented with an opportunity to start the season with an early victory.

Baldwin said: "I think it's great to get a home game on the first day of the season. No disrespect to Swansea but it's different from the Manchester United's and Chelsea's of this world.

"Two years ago we experienced Chelsea coming here on the opening day when we took the lead but they went on to another gear."

Manager Sean Dyche shared the opinions of his chief executive but is also wary of the two fixtures that follow his sides opener.

Dyche said: "It's great to be back in the Premier League and we're all relishing the challenge ahead.

"It's a difficult start but it is nice for the fans for the first game to be at home.

"Like every game in this league, it'll be tough as Swansea are a good side who had a great end to their season under Francesco Guidolin.

"We then play Liverpool who will have had their first full pre-season under Jurgen Klopp and there have been changes at Chelsea of course."

He continued: "Everyone knows the demands of the Premier League but this is where we all wanted to be so we're looking forward to all the games."
