Bryan Robson Likens Everton Midfielder Ross Barkley to England Legend Paul Gascoigne

"?Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson believes that Everton's Ross Barkley could have a special Euro 16.


The 22-year-old is part of the England squad, which will kick off their campaign against Russia on Saturday, and according to "?The Sun, the ex-defender is backing the midfielder to become the next Paul Gascoigne.

Gascoigne, or 'Gazza', is widely regarded as one of the most talented players to ever take the field for the Three Lions. The erstwhile midfielder played for the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur, also suiting up for Everton in the latter stages of his career.


Robson has compared Barkely to the legendary Englishman, praising his instinctive ability.


"Then we have Barkley who, like Wilshere, can provide something special,"? Robson said. "And I think a competition like this could just make him "? he could become our new Gazza.


"Just like Gascoigne, he has got so much instinctive ability. He's got quick feet, can ghost past people and has good vision."?


Robson also hailed Eric Dier, the Spurs man who is set to have a say in the tournament's proceedings. Noting England's wealth in attacking midfield, the former player pointed out that the team also needed someone to work hard defensively.

"We have a new generation of creative midfielders, but somebody has to take care of the back door "? and that is Eric Dier.


"He does that sitting role very well and the Tottenham man is a real steady Eddie.It's not showy, it's not going to get you off your seat, but it is so crucial in the modern game.


"Dier is a commodity we have not really had in the past."
