Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski Struggling for Poland in Euro 2016

Published on: 16 June 2016

"?Poland striker Robert Lewandowski was disappointing in his side's goalless stalemate against adopted nation Germany on Thursday at the Stade de France, and just hasn't been able to pick up where he left off so far in this summer's tournament.

The 27-year-old has struck a blank in his first two games for Poland, and is yet to register a shot on target for his troubles too. Lewandowski averaged one completed pass every six minutes against Germany, and struggled retaining possession throughout this week's encounter at the Stade de France.

Poland's chief striker was dispossessed or mis-controlled the ball once every seven minutes and 30 seconds on average, making him a real hindrance for his country. He made 44 touches against Germany, 23% of which were misplaced passes, 18% were unsupported touches, 9% were off-target shots or unsuccessful dribbles and 7% were uncompleted long balls and crosses (whoscored).

Robert Lewandowski was billed as Poland's poster-boy ahead of this summer's 2016 European Championships, but is struggling to live up to his billing. Despite an outstanding club campaign with Bayern Munich that saw him winning the league and cup double with 42 goals in all competitions, Poland supporters have hardly seen a shadow of the prolific striker so far.

His poor form threatens to diminish their chances of a lengthy stay in the tournament too, as Lewandowski is one of the best strikers in the European Championships. Nevertheless, the 27-year-old's woes haven't harmed Poland's chances so far as they have four points from their first two group games, but can they match the European heavyweights without an in-form Lewandowski?
