Barcelona are reportedly lining up an initial offer of £25m for England and Everton centre-back John Stones this week, according to the Daily Mail.
The La Liga giants have been linked with the defender in the past but speculation cooled on that front a few months ago.
But he is now back on their radar after the report suggested Barcelona's first target, Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos, would be out of reach for the La Liga champions after being told that he is not for sale.
Stones has attracted a lot of attention from clubs around Europe which has seen Everton place a £45m valuation on the former Barnsley defender but Barca's £25m bid will just be the opening offer.
The 22-year-old was the subject of a number of bids in last summer's transfer window with then Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho seeing the youngster as a potential replacement for John Terry.
But Everton remained firm in their stance over Stones' future and Roberto Martinez rejected all three bids from the former Premier League champions.
Reports are suggesting Mourinho could be back for the young centre-back again but this time with Manchester United as their neighbours, City, are also interested in wrestling Barcelona and United for Stones' signature.
It was reported at the time of Chelsea's bids that Stones had handed in a transfer request but Martinez had reassured him of Everton's ambition after a poor previous season.
But this campaign proved to be another disastrous one and it cost Martinez his job as the Merseyside club finished in the bottom half of the table.
With Martinez now gone, it will now make a move to one of Europe's top young talents increasingly feasible for either Barcelona or one of the Manchester clubs.
