Arsène Wenger Reveals Admiration for 'Incredible' N'Golo Kanté Amid Rumoured Arsenal Interest

Published on: 09 June 2016

"?Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has admitted the admiration has for Premier League title winning Leicester City midfielder N'Golo Kanté, fuelling further speculation that the Gunners could still try and sign the highly coveted French international this summer.

Arsenal are just one of the club that has been heavily linked with Kanté since the back end of the 2015/16 campaign, with Chelsea and Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain the other two leading suitors.

Wenger has spent £30m on prising long-term target Granit Xhaka away from Borussia Monchengladbach already this summer, but the potential addition of Kanté would give the Gunners the kind of midfield drive they have often lacked in the last 10 years.

"I admire and like N'Golo Kanté a lot. It gives you ideas. He gives you the feeling that the higher the level he plays at, the more at ease he is," Wenger told beIN Sports while back in France ahead of the eagerly anticipated kickoff to Euro 2016.

"We are talking about numbers and he has the most interceptions in Europe and by far. He has incredible quality. He feels the game, only very few people can do that. He's always where he needs to be," the veteran Arsenal boss added.

"It is very rare to have that in the central midfielder - not always orthodox, but always in the right place."

Kanté earned incredible plaudits in his debut season in England after being brought over from France by esteemed Leicester scout Steve Walsh. The Foxes gave Caen less than £6m for his services and he went well above and beyond any reasonable expectation the club and fans could have had.

He finished the season with a place in the PFA Team of the Year and had worked his way into the French national team setup despite having never been capped at any junior level before.
