Arsenal Preparing Contract Extension to Keep Arsene Wenger at the Emirates for 3 More Seasons

Arsenal are reportedly preparing a contract extension for manager Arsene Wenger despite unrest amongst disgruntled Gunners fans, according to the Mirror.

Wenger's current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2017/18 season, but the Arsenal hierarchy are currently planning a deal that will see him manage the club at least until the 2019/20 season.

Last season marked the 66-year-old's 20th anniversary as Arsenal boss, in which he has won three Premier League titles, six FA Cups and six Community Shields.

But last season was also a season of unrest, with a section of Arsenal fans reacting to the team's title failure by displaying their anger at the lack of progress with placards and banners at certain home games.

Wenger took the brunt of the blame, but the Frenchman has always maintained he would not be leaving and signalled his intention with the £32m signing of Swiss superstar Granit Xhaka.

Leicester City star Jamie Vardy has also been targeted by Wenger with the England international still mulling over the move after Arsenal reportedly activated his £20m buyout clause.

Wenger has in the past expressed his desire to continue as Arsenal boss even in light of persistent criticism, but the Frenchman revealed earlier this year that he could not see himself emulating Sir Alex Ferguson' 27-year stint at Manchester United.

Asked whether he could see himself in charge in 2022, the Frenchman simply replied: "No, no, never. Don't worry."
