Arsenal Eye Sporting's Islam Slimani as Jamie Vardy Alternative

"?Arsenal are said to be interested in signing Islam Slimani from Portuguese side Sporting CP if their move for Jamie Vardy fails.

According to "?The Sun, Arsene Wenger is making contingency plans in case the Leicester City and England striker turns down a move to the Emirates after Euro 2016.

Slimani would offer similar value to Arsenal, as he is believed to have a £23.5m release clause. The Algerian also had a fantastic individual season, scoring 30 goals.

Coincidentally, the 27-year-old is also a target for Leicester this summer, should Vardy be sold. - and the Foxes had a "?£16m bid rejected.

However, numerous reports have suggested that the Englishman has decided to stay at the Premier League champions as they play Champions League football for the first time.

This may cause Wenger to move Slimani as his is eager to boost his attacking options ahead of the new season. There are doubts over the abilities of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott to adequately spearhead a title-challenge, whilst Danny Welbeck has been ruled out with another long-term injury.

Sporting manager Jorge Jesus has "?previously admitted that the Portuguese club are powerless to prevent Slimani leaving if an acceptable bid is made.

"I know it's important that Slimani continues, but also that it is important to sell a player for 30 million euros. Sporting is not used to making these deals. At present, €30m for a player like Slimani is nothing."
