Reports that new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to dispense with Daley Blind have led Arsenal to weigh up a shock swoop for the Dutch international, as per the "?Sunday Mirror.
The 26-year-old was an ever-present at the heart of the Red Devils defence last season, but concerns that he is not physical enough to play at centre-half, as well as United's recent capture of Villarreal youngster Eric Bailly have led to doubts over Blind's Old Trafford future.
That news has put Arsene Wenger on red alert, who is still searching for a reliable partner for Laurent Koscielny, and is sure to be impressed by Blind's intelligence and technical ability.
However, the French manager has a penchant for signing technically gifted players in roles where more physically imposing ones may be better suited. This has left the Gunners with a soft underbelly down the years, and the Arsenal faithful will hope that their manager will not repeat these failings.
Meanwhile, despite initial reports that Mourinho's arrival would see Blind leave the club, the Dutchman claimed in a recent interview in his homeland, which was screened on MUTV, that he will be working hard to impress the incoming Portuguese.
"I am looking forward to working with Mourinho. We will have to wait and see if anything changes for me," Blind said.
"I will just give my all and work hard. Mourinho is a manager who has achieved a lot and I am keen to work with him.
I might not be as big as Pepe [whom Mourinho managed at Real Madrid], but I think I have shown in the Premier League that I can hold my own defensively.
We conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League [last season] and I think we had the most clean sheets.
That's something to be proud of. You might be looking for a certain statement but I will just give my all under Mourinho."
